After reading the review at blueseal, i simply cant wait for today's visit to cheng li yuan with sally!
Located a short distance away from the tanjong pagar mrt (its hidden in the shop houses), its really accessible because all you need is a 5mins walk.. although im not sure why today it seems that there's not much customers other than us. maybe its because today is a monday? monday's blue! hahaha.
im not sure if i'd want 100 xiaolongbaos at a go...:D
We had a long time browsing through the menu (actually is Sally hahaha) because im pretty much standard when im at dim sum places. Zha jiang mian & xiaolongbao is a must, unless i've tried and didnt like it.
this is the zha jiang mian. its basically noodles with shredded/cubed cucumber and spiced mince meat gravy. the zha jiang mian here was a little salty (due to the gravy i supposed) and i didnt like eating uneven cucumbers, considering the only time im eating cucumber is when im having my zha jiang mian. So i wont be ordering this when im back next time.
This is our little dragon bun(xiao long bao) and i think chinese should know that its a dumpling with soup dripping when you're eating it.
Taste wise is better than crystal jade and comparable to ding tai fung in my opinion, although at CLY, they have a darker color in their soup. At the price of $5/8dumplings, its definitely better than having the $8.50/10dumplings at ding tai fung.
seems like singaporeans are always paying more for brand names huh? :)
This is called shredded meat with popiah skin if im not wrong. The pork was shredded nicely and quite evenly (kindly pointed out by ms sally) and the veggies you see in the picture is actually white onion.
Sally has the making of a future popiah kia, while i think i am better off eating popiah than making them. the popiahs i made look like they're dropping anytime soon! :(
WEETS! I absolutely love this delicious dish. it's one of the recommendation and its a must-try when you're there! its a mix between crabmeat, fish, scrambled egg whites, one egg yolk, broccoli and vinegar! Tasted heavenly and its really healthy in terms of cooking.
Last but not least, I present to you the dessert of the day..
We ordered this because I wanted to try it (that sally didnt like red bean. :P) and it was really nice. It looks like bread, but doesnt taste like one. in fact, initially it actually gave me the idea that it might be a fish cake!
filled with red bean paste within and conventional sugar on the outer coat, it was surprising that its not that sugary and sweet as i thought it out to be. although it was a deep fry dish(like your donut) it doesnt have that greasy, oily (or pukey) feeling.
Sally and I didnt managed to finish off the dishes though, simply because the two of us were too full to eat anymore even though the food was good.
and all these are going for only.. $45!! INCLUSIVE OF GST + 1 COKE + 1 LIME DRINK(warning: the lime drink is really sour.. really lime - according to Sally. hahah)
Definitely a place I would love to visit again! :D
from the full-like-hell & happy,
Charps! :D
